Let’s start at the beginning. The rightly famous drink known as Beaujolais is the foremost wine in the region of the same name between Saint Amour to the north and the outskirts of Lyon to the south. It owes its name to the medieval house of the lords of Beaujeu. Traces of the first lord of Beaujeu appear in around 950.
The world’s best-known red wine has become a real national and international emblem. Deliciously fruity, clean-tasting and hearty, like an old friend you enjoy meeting, Beaujolais is, quite simply, the wine of friendship. In its home region, it’s the wine of hospitality ‘the cup of friendship’ between hospitable winegrowers and their guests. The wine gives full meaning to the term ‘easy-drinking’ that suits it so well. It is inimitable as the Gamay grape only reveals its full charm within the Beaujolais production area.
