History

Cru impérial, by name.
It had to be.
In homage to the divine Caesar named Julius.
Cru éditorial too, as the favorite of writers and certain journalists, especially at Le Canard Enchaîné.
The latter are said to have coined the amusing expression, “aller prendre les eaux à Juliénas”!
All these illustrious patrons have made Juliénas a very popular wine.
Juliénas is so happy that the dynamic producers’ association has created a large wine cellar in its honor, complete with cheerful Bacchic frescoes.
And not just anywhere: in an old, disused church at the heart of the village of Juliénas.
Every second weekend in November, the villagers gather to celebrate.
It’s a chance to taste the new-born vintage, and to honor a writer who has sung the praises of their beloved nectar.
The latter received precisely 104 bottles of Juliénas, enough to visit every Saturday and Sunday of the year!
Juliénas are colorful, solid, firm wines – in a word, “back-of-the-season” wines. They deserve a few years’ ageing in a good cellar to reach their rich fullness.

Tasting

Dark purple with purplish hues, this cru delivers complex, delicate aromas of black fruits and flowers (peony and violet), enhanced by peppery notes. After a frank, fruity attack, the well-balanced, fairly round and aromatic palate reveals a fine structure.
