History

The story of a wine is sometimes intimately linked to that of a man.
Jean Ernest DESCOMBES was a very sympathetic figure in our Beaujolais region, a joyful person, always ready to celebrate.
He had succeeded in creating one of the finest Domaines in Morgon, a Cru to which he devoted himself intensively for some thirty years.
His warm and welcoming cellar was visited by many journalists and wine professionals, who came to enjoy his fine wines.
Those who knew him will never forget him.
An outstanding winegrower, Jean Ernest DESCOMBES was also a gifted winemaker.
Three quarters of his vines are over 50 years old, planted in the best terroirs such as Le Py, la Roche Pillée, Les Pillets and Bellevue.
The superb nectars produced on this estate have earned him an impressive list of awards.
After his departure to the Lord’s vineyards in October 1993, his daughter Nicole took up the torch.
With a dynamism that would have warmed her father’s heart.
She’s quick to point out that wine always resembles the person who made it.
Her father’s Morgon is no exception to this maxim.

Tasting

This is a great, harmonious Morgon, with scents of blackcurrant, plum, violet and old-fashioned rose. The whole gently coats the palate, revealing successive waves of fresh red fruit, especially cherry. This is a tender, beautifully mature wine.
