The story of a wine is sometimes intimately linked to that of a man. Jean-Ernest DESCOMBES was a very sympathetic figure in our Beaujolais region, a joyful person, always ready to celebrate. He had succeeded in creating one of the finest estates in Morgon, a cru to which he devoted intensive promotion for some thirty years. His warm and welcoming cellar was visited by journalists and wine professionals alike, who came to savor his fine wines. Today, his daughter Nicole has taken up the torch, with a dynamism that would have warmed her father’s heart. She’s quick to point out that wine always resembles the person who made it. An outstanding winegrower, Jean-Ernest DESCOMBES was also a gifted winemaker. His vines are planted in the best terroirs, notably the Côte du Py, a hill of eruptive origin: a local peculiarity that sits at the heart of the Morgon appellation. This very deep, well-draining soil allows the Gamay grapes to ripen and flourish in ideal conditions.
