History

Saint-Amour.
It has to be said that the most northerly Cru has a name that sounds sweet to the ear, and to the heart.
It’s the wine of poets and lovers.
If it didn’t exist, life would certainly be less charming.
The village of Saint-Amour has given its name to its lovely wine.
Before that, we have to go back a long way, to Gallo-Roman times, when a centurion named Amor belonging to the Theban Legion stationed in the Valais region of Switzerland distinguished himself by his Christian faith and met martyrdom.
Clearly, the paths of love, paved with pleasure and pain, are rarely easy.
Today, Saint-Amour wine has two faces, depending on the composition of the soils, and even the type of vinification.
The first, a primeur-style wine produced on clay-silica soils, is precocious, tender and charming, with a dominant peach and floral fragrance.
The second, a “vin de garde” or “d’arrière-saison”, grown on granitic gravel, is more powerful and fleshy, marked by aromas of kirsch and raspberry plus a spicy note reminiscent of cinnamon.
In both cases, the wines are as seductive as they should be.

Tasting

It’s not only on Valentine’s Day that you can treat yourself to a bottle of Saint- Amour. This is a rich, powerful wine with a chewy texture and well-melted tannins: a wine for laying down. It’s the perfect accompaniment to leg of lamb, and sure to elicit compliments from your guests.
