The religious origins of the local toponymy date back to the creation of the commune. A Roman legionary by the name of Amor is said to have taken refuge in the village after escaping a massacre in the Swiss Valais region in 283 AD. He became a missionary and gave his name to this charming Beaujolais village. His conversion to Christianity is said to have been the reason for its survival. Local toponymy is no exception, although we can’t explain the precise origin of the lieu-dit “En Paradis”.<\/p>\n
