History

Saint-Amour. Il faut reconnaître que le Cru situé le plus au nord porte un nom qui sonne doucement à l’oreille, et au cœur. C’est le vin des poètes et des amoureux. S’il n’existait pas, la vie aurait à coup sûr moins de charme.

L’origine religieuse de la toponymie locale est afférente à la création de la commune. Un légionnaire romain du nom d’Amor aurait trouvé refuge dans ce village après avoir échappé à un massacre dans la région du Valais suisse en l’an 283. Devenu missionnaire, il aurait donné son nom à ce charmant village du Beaujolais. Sa conversion au christianisme serait même à l’origine de sa survie. La toponymie locale n’y échappe pas, bien que nous ne puissions expliquer l’origine précise du lieu-dit “En Paradis”.
