Regions

The Moulin in Vent à Romanèche-Thorins

Beaujolais

The Beaujolais vineyard, with its 13,000 hectares of vines, is located north of Lyon. It is characterized by numerous valleys where the soils are predominantly granite or clay-limestone. The Gamay grape is king here and offers intense fruity aromas. The appellations of Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages as well as the ten Crus offer a myriad of expressions that will perpetually renew the experience of the region’s wines.

MÂCONNAIS

It is the southernmost region of Burgundy. The breathtaking landscapes of the rocks of Vergisson and Solutré augur great wines on these clay-limestone soils. Historical cradle of the Chardonnay grape variety, the appellations of Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Villages… have contributed to the fame of the Mâconnais region.

Appellations

BEAUJOLAIS

The Beaujolais A.O.C. wine region covers 3 900ha and is mainly located in the South near Villefranche, Anse and le Bois-d’Oingt. This is the wine that best exemplifies uncomplicated charm, and is impossible to duplicate anywhere else. Gamay at its natural best!

BEAUJOLAIS BLANC

Beaujolais Blanc is something wonderful, unexpected, delicious and appreciated by a growing number of connoisseurs. It develops subtle aromas of white flowers that blend harmoniously with gentle fragrances of citrus.

BEAUJOLAIS ROSÉ

Produced in the appellations of Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages, rosés are made from Gamay grapes. Two wine making techniques can be used: direct press or short maceration. The wines are generally fresh and thirst-quenching, with citrus and peach aromas.

BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGE

With its 3 000ha, the Beaujolais-Villages A.O.C. accounts for 25% of total production in the Beaujolais region. It takes its name from the 38 wine-producing villages which have long been identified for the superior quality of their wines. This is the ideal, multi-purpose red wine we all seek.

Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau

BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE

The Aligoté grape variety gave its name to the Appellation Contrôlée which covers three departments, or French districts. The wines are fresh and generally offer aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers. It is used as a base for the real Kir.

BROUILLY

The Southernmost and largest Cru du Beaujolais offers the highest level of exuberant fruit. A deep, radiant ruby colour, intensely perfumed, offering a whirl of richly concentrated, jammy fruit, such as damson plum, strawberry, peach and redcurrant. The texture is opulent and velvety. Brouilly is at its best while in the fullness of youth.

CHENAS

Full bodied, tannic and quite hearty, the smallest Cru du Beaujolais, which covers 270 ha, i.e. most of the town, doesn’t lack character.

CHIROUBLES

Chiroubles has the distinction of being the highest Cru, culminating at 450m above sea level. These highly aromatic wines are smooth, balanced and pleasant, offering a nose of peony, violet and spice.

COTE DE BROUILLY

As its name suggests, it is produced on the hillsides (“côtes” in French) of Mount Brouilly, once a volcano. The 310 ha of the A.O.C. produce a fruity, delicate wine with aromas of fresh grapes and iris.

CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE

A blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay, Crémant de Bourgogne is vinified according to the traditional method as in Champagne. It keeps however a lively and fresh character, ideal for a successful aperitif.

FLEURIE

The Queen of Beaujolais. The origin of the name Fleurie has nothing at all to do with flowers, but with an officer in the Roman Legion. In a certain way, wine is the greatest gift that Rome gave to France. The 870 ha of the A.O.C. produce a distinguished, seductive and extremely fruity wine with a touch of minerality.

JULIENAS

Spread over 580 ha, Juliénas is a wine for laying down. Legend has it that the A.O.C. takes its name from the great Julius Caesar, but what is true is that it is well known to be a “writers’ wine”, a favourite of many French writers and a number of newsmen in Paris. The full-bodied bouquet is both fruity and floral.

MACON-VILLAGES BLANC

The white wines known as Mâcon-Villages come from some 44 different villages that lie to the North and West of Mâcon and the peaceful River Saône. Hillside slopes provide ideal exposure to the sun, as well as excellent ventilation and drainage. The bouquet suggests complex, subtle aromas of white spring flowers, such as acacia, lilies and hawthorn, along with typical citrus notes.

MORGON

The fruit of Beaujolais, the charm of Burgundy. It is undoubtedly the most typical of the ten Beaujolais Crus and therefore the easiest to identify in a tasting. Its particular terroir taste (cherry, plum, peach) intensifies with age.

MOULIN-A-VENT

The king of Beaujolais! The 660 ha are mainly planted on the municipality of Romanèche-Thorins where Les Vins Georges Duboeuf has been established since 1957. The wines are bold, powerful and fragrant and they can age well for years.

POUILLY-FUISSE

The four villages of Pouilly-Fuissé, Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré and Vergisson produce the famous Pouilly-Fuissé wine. They have achieved the remarkable feat of selling 75% of their wine abroad. It’s the “jewel” of the Mâconnais region, and its colour is an unrivalled golden green. It offers a bouquet of roasted almonds, lime blossom and verbena, with a clear hint of vanilla.

REGNIE

Nestling among the hillside vineyards, surrounded by the sea of vines of their elders, Morgon to the North and Brouilly to the South, Régnié is well known for being the youngest Cru du Beaujolais as it was born in 1988. It now covers 400 ha and produces fragrant, pleasing wines.

SAINT AMOUR

The Northernmost Cru du Beaujolais is translated as “Saint of Love”. It is named after a very small and beautiful village in the heart of the A.O.C. This elegant, delicate wine offers peony, peach and apricot aromas.

SAINT-VERAN

The birth of Saint-Véran in 1971 was quite a logical event. It was the recognition of a wine that had always been superior compared to other areas of the Mâconnais region. With pronounced floral aromas dominated by lime blossom, a honey nose and a hint of toast, this wine offers a persistent fruity taste and is long on the palate.

VIRÉ CLESSÉ

Recognized in 1998, the appellation of Viré-Clessé includes two communes in Southern Burgundy. Its wines offer subtle aromas of apricots, honey and white flowers. The ideal accompaniment for the aperitif.
