Chénas is the smallest appellation of the Beaujolais in surface. Its name is linked to the ancient oak plantations of the commune, cleared by the Gallo-Romans and then by the monastic orders of Philip V the Long.
Vines have existed on the site known as “les Darroux” for a very long time. The Ursuline nuns of Macon had a small estate there which was sold during the Revolution as a national asset.
The vines, about sixty years old, are managed in reasoned fight.
