Morgon is the name of one of the villages of Villié. Coming from a special terroir made up of decomposed rock and crumbly schist, Morgon is undoubtedly the most typical of the ten Beaujolais vintages, and the easiest to identify when tasting. Its distinctive terroir taste intensifies with time, and it is then said that it ‘morgons’.
It was in 1985 that Hervé LACOQUE moved to this estate, which was founded 5 generations ago. There are four sub-appellations of the Morgon appellation: Micouds, Charmes, Corcelette and Côte du Py. Côte du Py is a hill of eruptive origin: a local characteristic which sits in the heart of the Morgon appellation. Its very deep and very draining soil allows the gamay to mature and flourish in ideal conditions.
