History
Domaine du Pourpre is a family-run estate in the commune of Chénas. The MEZIAT family has been running it for 5 generations. The current head of the operation, Bernard MEZIAT, took over in 1978, so it’s fair to say that he’s a very experienced winegrower !
The vines are 55 years old on average and face south-south-east. They are planted at a density of 9,000 to 10,000 per hectare and are grown using responsible techniques and minimal spraying, with short, goblet-style pruning. Yields are 40 to 50 hl.
Tasting
A crimson colour and intense, complex aromas including floral scents (roses, peonies), dark berry aromas and hints of kirsch, sweet spices and pepper. Full, rich and fleshy on the palate, its tannins are mentholated, silky and distinctive, giving the wine a good structure.
Good persistence on the finish.
