History

Brouilly, the most southerly of the Beaujolais crus, is also the most exuberant: an indisputable case of (almost) human geography!
It’s also the largest and most extensive cru.
Its vines encircle the base of the impressive Mont Brouilly, stretching over the six communes of Odenas, Quincié, Cercié, Saint Lager, Charentay and Saint Etienne la Varenne.
Its name comes from a certain Brulius, a lieutenant in the Roman imperial legion.
It’s tempting to imagine that this officer under Julius Caesar’s command had a character as solid and jovial as that of the tastiest of Beaujolais crus!
Brouilly, known and appreciated on all five continents, is a great ambassador for quality French red wines.
