History

Morgon is without doubt the most distinctive of the ten Beaujolais Crus, and certainly the easiest to identify on tasting.
Its taste of terroir intensifies with age, reminding some discerning and no less lyrical tasters of fox fur and cherry jam.
They call it “morgonne”, a word as enigmatic as it is unanimously adopted by its supporters.
The science of wine is no stranger to mystery!
It takes its name from a hamlet whose reputation as a winemaker led it to be added to that of the village of Villié, so much so that the latter is not far from being forgotten.
Its producers like to use the mischievous slogan “the fruit of a Beaujolais, the charm of a Burgundy”.
The Climat de la Côte du Py is highly reputed, and its wines best express the distinctive character of Morgon.
It’s a singularly robust and square red wine, in a word virile, perfectly suited to long ageing.

Tasting

Deep garnet-red in color, with intense peppery notes accompanied by aromas of red fruits, peaches and plums, with hints of undergrowth and smoke, this Morgon immediately reveals its power. Well-balanced, it pleasantly fills the mouth with well-structured flesh, ripe tannins and fruity aromas.
