Born in 1969 in Shimane, Izumi Kato’s painting is imbued with Japanese culture, he considers the portrait in an animistic, childlike or humorous way. He evokes human nature through naive features. He is known for his powerful and mysterious representations of human figures with a primitive aesthetic that one would think had come straight out of a phantasmagorical universe.
