History

A former hunting lodge, the Château de Nervers has been a family-run wine growing estate for almost 200 years. Six generations of DE CHABANNES have followed on from one another up to the current managers, Jean-Benoît and Tiphaine.

The vines are 50 years old on average. They grow on rocks and clay, producing well-structured and spicy wines. The yield per hectare is quite low and the acidity is not very high, allowing for the production of full-bodied yet well-rounded wines.

All plots and cuvées are covered by two quality labels: Terra Vitis and HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale – High Environmental Value).
The Haute Valeur Environnementale is the most demanding level of an environmental certification system for agricultural and wine-producing enterprises. This is a voluntary scheme aimed at identifying and showcasing practices which are particularly environmentally friendly. It covers 4 themes: protecting biodiversity, the plant health strategy, fertilisation management and water resource management.

Tasting

A brilliant ruby colour with purplish tints. The nose is fruity (Morello cherries, redcurrants, plums) with a hint of mineral. Good attack. Flavourful and fruity on the palate with elegant tannins. A well-constructed wine that may be laid down for 2 or 3 years.
