Imperial vintage, by name. One was needed. In homage to the divine Caesar named Julius. It is also an editorial cru, because it is the favorite of writers and some journalists, especially at the Canard Enchaîné. The latter would have invented this very amusing expression, “to go take the waters in Julienas”! All these illustrious patrons have made Julienas very popular by providing it with joyful publicity. Joy is so well suited to Julienas that the dynamic producers’ association has created a large cellar in its honor, with cheerful Bacchic frescoes.
Not just anywhere, by the way: in an old disused church located in the heart of its eponymous village. Every second weekend in November, the villagers celebrate. It is the occasion to taste the newborn vintage, and to honor a writer who knew how to sing the glory of their beloved nectar. To the latter, 104 bottles of Juliénas are precisely given, enough to frequent every Saturday and Sunday of the year!
Colored, solid, firm wines, in a word “after the season”, Juliénas deserve a few years of ageing in a good cellar to reach all their rich plenitude.
